Frequently Asked Questions

What is biltong?

100% natural, Texas USDA Angus Choice Air-Dried Cured & Spiced Beef.

What’s the difference between biltong & beef jerky?

We’re glad you asked! Click here for that answer.

Is it cooked? Is it dehydrated?

Neither! Biltong is not cooked using heat, nor is it dehydrated like beef jerky. Our authentic South African biltong is cured in a bath of vinegar which eliminates any harmfulness and adds the wonderful tangy aftertaste. It is then rolled in spices including salt, which helps to further cure the meat. We then hang it up to air dry in a climate controlled clean environment.

Where do you get your beef?

We have relationships with local Texas suppliers for the highest quality beef at the best possible price. Prices of beef do fluctuate, but we keep our biltong prices consistent.

How is it best stored?

Although biltong can be stored in a cool dry pantry for up to 7-10 days, we prefer to keep ours in the refrigerator where it can last up to 30 days. We’ve never made it that far :). If you have more than you can handle, you can store your biltong in the freezer, where the consistency is kept. Just take it out 30-45 minutes prior to enjoying.

Is it Fatty?

Our artisan biltong is hand sliced. Because beef cuts are not uniform, there is marbling in our biltong. It’s what makes it taste fantastic and keeps it moist! If you’ve frequented a South African butcher, you can order it specifically with the fat side left on. Real Afrikaners know!

Can I buy whole sticks?

We do get request for whole sticks, and fat-on. Currently we are sticking to our perfectly sliced biltong as it’s easy to ship and easier to enjoy! eMail us at support@happiebees.com with specific requests and we may be able to accommodate.

Do you have a more frequent subscription than 1x month?

Do you sell in bulk?

Our biltong is artisan made in individual batches. If you are looking for a bulk order, please email support@happiebees.com with your request. We will provide a quote and a turnaround time..

Why do I have to pay shipping?
